In a May 1 press briefing, the White House announced that the US is ending its coronavirus vaccination requirement for incoming air travelers on the 11th of May.

The official briefing states:

"Today, we are announcing that the Administration will end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Federal employees, Federal contractors, and international air travelers at the end of the day on May 11, the same day that the COVID-19 public health emergency ends."

First instituted in November, 2021 when the US government lifted its travel ban restrictions for fully vaccinated foreign travelers, the US has kept its COVID-19 vaccination requirement in place for incoming visitors long after many other nations around the world ended similar mandates.

Following the end of the vaccine mandate on May 11, foreign visitors should once again be able to travel to the US without being required to show proof of vaccination. It will mark a full reopening of the United States to foreign visitors, allowing many families to reunite for the first time in over three years.

Travel Insurance for USA Visitors

The United States does not require foreign visitors on B1 or B2 visas to have travel insurance, but it is highly recommended.

Due to the incredibly high cost of healthcare in the US, visiting family members should always be covered by visitors medical insurance. Remember, your domestic health insurance cannot cover your visiting parents or relatives. If they were to get sick or injured while in the US, the resulting medical bill could exceed your life savings. They must be covered by visitors medical insurance to ensure that they can get necessary treatment for an affordable price.

Be sure to make shopping for visitors insurance a part of any plan to visit the USA. That way, your loved ones can worry less about unexpected expenses, and you can enjoy your time together.
